Damaged Grit Bin in Taston: The County Council have agreed to replace the damaged grit bin above Taston on the way to Charlbury.
The bin will also be re-filled in part of the Highways Winter programme.
Concerns for Pedestrians in Spelsbury: At the last meeting the Council agreed to contact the County Highways for advice on improving pedestrian safety in the village.
Hugh Datson is concerned especially with two spots, one above the Almshouses to Quickset Close
and the other from the Old School heading out of the village to Charlbury.
Hugh, a Councillor and a keen walker has kindly given some good advice for the coming months and would like to hear your views:
With the nights drawing in, now’s a good time to remember to pay extra attention to vulnerable road users when we’re driving. There isn’t much designated provision for pedestrians in our communities and on busy roads in particular, those on foot are especially at risk from fast-moving vehicles. Likewise, pedestrians need to be aware of the hazards around them and take care when walking on the public highway. Light-coloured clothing and a torch can help us be seen in dull or dark conditions. Spelsbury Parish Council is considering how we can improve pedestrian safety, especially in the middle of Spelsbury where there is a lot of traffic at times. The automatic speed awareness sign is proving very helpful in alerting drivers to the speeds they are travelling, and we would like to hear how you think we might also improve safety for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users throughout the parish.
Budgeting: The parish meetings in November and January will see the Council look at what it requires
for the Council financial year 2024/2025. This includes working out the figure it asks Council Tax Payers in the Parish to pay via West Oxfordshire District Council. This money will be for the new Parish Council.
20 MPH Speed Limits Agreed In Parish: The County Council has agreed to 20 mph speed limits in Dean, Spelsbury and Taston, following the consultation. By the time you see these notes, they could well be in force! It has been quite some time to get from no speeding restrictions, to 30 mph and now to 20 mph!
Remember Those Alone This Time of Year: As the nights draw in, please keep an eye out for those neighbours who live on their own, during spells of bad weather especially. Perhaps check in with them, if you do not see them about!
Thank you,
Graham Beacham.
