The Parish Council election for Spelsbury Parish Council will take place on Thursday 2nd May.
There are six councillor positions to be filled.
Candidates must
– have British, Irish, Commonwealth or EU citizenship
– be over 18
– satisfy at least one of four qualifications
a) be on the electoral register
b) occupy land in the parish as an owner or tenant
c) have their principal or only place of work in the parish
d) live in or within 4.8 km (3 miles) of the parish
The list of disqualification reasons can be obtained from WODC.
The election period, the time that nomination forms can be handed in to WODC, will start on Monday 25th March and end at 4pm on Friday 5th April.
Nomination packs can be obtained from the Clerk or directly from WODC.
Nominations for councillors must be received by WODC BY HAND by 4pm on Friday 5th April. Postal nominations will not be accepted. If a postal nomination is received, the candidate will be contacted by WODC to collect their nomination, which then has to be handed back in in person.
The nomination form can be handed in by someone on behalf of the candidate.
There is no withdrawl period after the close of nominations.
The Clerk will receive a Statement of Persons nominated by 4pm on Monday 8th April. This will show either:
– the result of an uncontested election, or
– the notice of poll.
Voter registration is open until Tuesday 16th May.
If there is a contested election, the poll will take place on Thursday 2nd May, from 7 am to 10 pm, at Spelsbury Memorial Hall. The count will take place on Friday 3rd May.
New councillors come into office, and the previous councillors retire on the 4th day after the election, Tuesday 7th May.
